Iron is an objectionable constituent of a drinking water. Appreciale amounts of Iron in water impart a bitter characteristic, metallic taste and cause oxdized precipitate.Coloration of water which may be yellowish brown to reddish brown and renders the water objectionable or unsuitable for domestic purpose , Iron-bearing water stain wash basins, toilets, urinals, bath tubs, showers, tiled floors and walls.Iron tolerances for municipal or house hold use should not exceed 0.3 ppm. Concentration of Iron in excess of 0.2 to 0.3 mg/l may cause nuisance even though its presence does not affect the hygienic quality of water.

Source and Nature
Iron exists in water in two levels. One as the bi-valent, Ferrous Iron (Fe ++) and the second one as the tri-valent, Ferric Iron (Fe+++).The waters of high alkalinity have lower iron than waters of low alkalini.

Iron Filter efficiently removes iron where hydrogen sulfide is NOT present, organic matters do not exceed 4 ppm and pH level is greater than 6.8 The Iron filter will also remove Manganese in applications where the Ph level is between 8 and 9.

All systems include the following:
Specified resin tank size with 1" riser tube Birm media to effectively remove iron, Back wash valve. The pH of the raw water must be greater than 6.8. If both Iron and Manganese are present, the pH should be between 7.5 and 8.5. For Manganese removal the pH should be between 8.0 and 9.0 for best results. Operated under proper conditions, the Birm Iron Backwash filter requires no chemical for maintenance and regeneration is not required. Iron removal efficiency is extremely high, top.
